Global Trade Alert provides real-time information on - and analysis of - measures taken by governments during the global economic downturn that are likely to affect foreign commerce.
Global Trade Alert, directed by Simon Evenett (Co-Director of the Centre's International Trade and Regional Economics Programme) is an independent initiative drawing upon expertise from research institutes in seven regions of the world economy. These research institutes will identify new state measures as they are introduced, assess their potential impact on trading partners, and carry out detailed research on the measures. Global Trade Alert complements and goes beyond other monitoring initiatives by identifying those trading partners likely to be harmed by state measures. It also encourages third parties to submit measures for scrutiny, and welcomes dialogue with Implementing Jurisdictions concerning the measures they have introduced.
Global Trade Alert was launched during World Trade Week in London on 8 June. Further high level meetings will follow in Washington on 22/3 June and Brussels on 8/9 July.
The GTA website allows policy-makers, exporters, the media, and analysts to search the posted government measures by implementing country, by trading partners harmed, and by sector. The first set of measures has been assessed and is available on the GTA website.
